The Holly Private Hospital to host ophthalmology seminars for pre-registration optometrists

The Holly Private Hospital is hosting a special series of teaching seminars for pre-registration optometrists.

These events are free of charge and will be hosted by leading consultant ophthalmic consultants and practitioners. The seminars will be held during February, March and April and will cover a range of practical topics and help practitioners gain valuable knowledge.

Please note that the talks are not CET accredited.

Speakers Profiles 

Ian Subak-Sharpe
Mr Subak-Sharpe undertook his undergraduate medical training at Cambridge University and St George’s Hospital Medical School, graduating in 1995.His specialist training in ophthalmology was carried out in many of the teaching hospitals in London, including Moorfields Eye Hospital where he was the Senior Resident. Mr Subak-Sharpe is on the specialist register for ophthalmology and works within the NHS for Bartshealth NHS Trust at Whipps Cross Hospital. After completing his specialist training in ophthalmology, Mr Subak-Sharpe undertook a clinical fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a further clinical fellowship in aesthetic and reconstructive oculoplastics at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital within the multi-disciplinary Craniofacial Unit. He also practises at The Holly Private Hospital.

Hadi Zambarakji
Hadi Zambarakji is an Ophthalmic Consultant Surgeon based in the NHS at Barts Health where he also holds a role as Clinical Governance lead for Ophthalmology. His areas of expertise include vitreoretinal surgery and microincision phacoemulsification cataract surgery including the use of multifocal lens implants and toric lens implants. Mr. Zambarakji received fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and in medical retina at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, at Harvard Medical School in the US. He runs a busy retinal practice and manages patients with retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreomaculartraction, advanced diabetic retinopathy/traction retinal detachment, macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusion. He has carried out research in retinal imaging, high myopia, vitreomacular traction and diabetic eye disease and has published widely in the field of retina and presented his research at several national and international meetings. His other interests include education and training, having been College Tutor and Regional Advisor to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as well as being an Examiner for the Royal College.

Maurice Gildersleeves 
Maurice is a Dispensing Optician and Contact Lens Practitioner. He studied Ophthalmic Dispensing at London’s City College and qualified in 1977. He gained the Contact Lens Fitting Diploma in 1988.
Maurice has spent most of career working in community practice for East Anglian independant Opticians. He started part time work for NHS in Whipps Cross Contact Lens Clinic 2008 and is currently managing a Practice for East of England Co op.Maurice is a supervisor for Anglia Ruskin 2nd year Dispensing students. Professional memberships include the British Contact Lens Association and the Keratoconus Self-Help Group.
