The Holly Private Hospital launches bid to become first UK private hospital to achieve major US Magnet® nursing accreditation

The Holly Private Hospital today announced its intention to become the first private hospital in the UK to achieve Magnet® status. Magnet® status is an US accreditation for outstanding nursing practice granted by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center, an affiliate of the American Nurses Association.

The award-winning Holly Private Hospital has been working towards Magnet® accreditation for the past 12 months, coordinated by Dr Lorraine Kelly, Director of Nursing and Clinical Services. The journey is expected to take several years with the hospital aiming to gain full Magnet® accreditation in 2020.

Speaking about why the hospital is opting to go for Magnet® status, Dr Lorraine Kelly said,

“The Holly Private Hospital is going for Magnet® recognition because it’s the highest international distinction a healthcare organisation can receive for nursing excellence. The Magnet® journey is complex and involves adherence to a series of complex evidence-based standards and bench-marking of nurse-sensitive indicators internationally. It involves a significant programme of transformation change and practice development but the Holly team is fully committed to delivering that change.

The journey towards accreditation compliments and supports what we are trying to achieve through our Five Year Business Plan and Clinical Strategy and is consistent with the Care Quality Commission key lines of enquiry and the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code.
