Hospital showcases local community artwork

Holly House Hospital and Buckhurst Hill Community Association recently joined forces to incorporate art into the private hospital.  The purpose of the project was to enhance the environment for patients, visitors and staff as well as showcasing vibrant artworksfrom the local community.

Buckhurst Hill Community Association is a self-supporting, independent institution which has been providing classes in arts, crafts and other leisure activities since 1950.  Local people attending the association’s art classes were offered the opportunity to contribute a piece for display at the hospital, with some truly original and excellent pieces provided by artists of all abilities.  The artwork was hung in the corridors around the Outpatient Department and Diagnostic Centre for patients visiting Holly House for outpatient consultations, diagnostic imaging and inpatient treatments in most medical specialties to enjoy.

The artwork has proved a hit with patients and visitors, with many of them commenting on how the pieces lift their mood and bring colour to the building.  Matthew Hayday, Deputy Director of Holly House, explained: “The project was about working with thecommunity to enrich the hospital environment for the benefit of our patients and provide afantasticopportunity for local artiststo present their work. We are continuing to develop our partnership with Buckhurst Hill Community Association and hope to repeat this initiative again soon.”
