Hospital open day success
Holly House Hospital opened its doors to approximately 400 visitors on Sunday 8 May. The Hospital Open Day provided the ideal opportunity for local people, families and medical professionals to visit as the hospital embarks upon a £21 million redevelopment and expansion project.
Among the visitors was Eleanor Laing MP for Epping Forest, who enjoyed a personal tour around the hospital, chatting to members of staff and guests along the way. Visitors enjoyed behind-the-scenes tours of the hospital, including theatres, outpatient department, diagnostic centre, day unit, decontamination department and physiotherapy unit.
Families enjoyed a variety of interactive activities including such as trying their hand at keyhole surgery, learning resuscitation, fitness challenges, BMI checks, carrying out a laboratory test and much more. Staff were available to meet visitors, offer advice and answer any questions, including a former Paralympic gold medallist and physiotherapist who provided tips on getting fit and preventing injuries.
Refreshments, including a BBQ were served throughout the day and visitors enjoyed relaxing on the lawn in the sunshine until late in the afternoon. Children were kept entertained with bouncy castles, face painting and a special appearance from Holly the Hippo.
