The Holly Private Hospital offers unique support to Haven House Children’s Hospice
The Holly Private Hospital is offering an early Christmas present to Haven House Children’s Hospice.
The children’s hospice is undertaking some essential building works in early January 2018 to create café facilities for families to enjoy, a new bigger lift and essential refurbishment to bedrooms. This vital work will greatly improve accessibility for children and their families however it does mean that some crucial areas of the hospice, such as the children’s bedrooms, play and day facilities will be inaccessible for several months.
Rather than closing down essential residential and day care services to the hundreds of children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions who rely on Haven House, the hospice is temporarily moving their clinical services to friendly neighbour, The Holly Private Hospital. For the duration of the building project, the hospice will take over four patient bedrooms, a day room and an office at the award-winning local private hospital. The Haven House team will still be responsible for and deliver all clinical care provided to hospice service users and their families during this time.
The temporary relocation means that Haven House can continue their vital work of supporting children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old and their families.
All therapeutic support such as physiotherapy, music therapy and yoga therapy will continue to be provided in the Holistic Care Centre at Haven House and will not be affected by the building work.

David Henderson, Hospital Director at The Holly Private Hospital said, “We have long been supporters of the wonderful work carried out by Haven House Children’s Hospice and our staff regularly host events here at the hospital to help raise money for the hospice. When we heard Haven House might have to close their doors for three months to carry out this essential work we knew we had to find a way to try and help them. We’re delighted to be welcoming Haven House and all the children, young people and families who use their services.”
Project timeline
- The Haven House building project will take place from early January and last approximately 3 months.
- During the building project, the hospice clinical team will be based at The Holly Private Hospital. All other hospice staff will still be based at Haven House.
- Haven House will move their clinical equipment to the hospital on 5th January 2018.
- The first hospice patients will start to use the facilities at the hospital from Monday 8th January 2018.
- The project is expected to be completed within three to four months.
