Dr Vinit Sawhney is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist, specialising in the treatment of arrhythmias in adults with catheter ablation and pacemaker/defibrillator implantation. She currently works at Barts Heart Centre for her NHS patients and sees patients in a private capacity at Nuffield Health Holly Hospital.
Dr Sawhney is highly specialised in a wide range of cardiac issues with a specialist interest in managing heart rhythm issues in normal hearts and congenital heart disease. She performs catheter ablation and also implants/extracts pacemakers and defibrillators. Dr Sawhney studied medicine at The Armed Forces Medical College in India and completed her specialist cardiology training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
She was awarded an MD for her research in risk stratification of ventricular arrhythmias using novel biomarkers at Queen Mary University, London. Her research interests include ablation strategies in arrhythmia management in adults with congenital heart disease, risk stratification in patients predisposed to sudden cardiac death and outcomes based research on patient safety. Dr Sawhney continues to be an active researcher, publishing regularly in peer-reviewed journals and presenting and chairing sessions at international conferences.
Dr Sawhney is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London. She actively engages in education of trainees. She was awarded a Master’s in Clinical Education from the University of London and her particular interest lies in simulation training.
Dr Sawhney is passionate about providing safe, compassionate and excellent care to her patients. She always puts patients and their families at the centre of decision making. She has extensive experience in quality and safety governance and is currently the Director of Patient Safety for Barts Heart Centre, London.
