Stress in balance allows us to react to life’s pressures, however, out of balance it is linked to a range of physical and mental health problems including chronic pain, headaches, fatigue, anxiety and depression.
For optimum health, both physically and mentally, the body's stress response system needs to be balanced by the relaxation system. The body is always working hard to maintain this natural equilibrium. However, if these responses are not balanced, because of the excessive pressures of modern life or lack of regular periods of relaxation, chronic stress can occur.
Chronic stress can lead to a host of disorders including:
- Chronic pain
- Heart disease
- Chronic fatigue
- Headaches and migraines
- Anxiety and depression
- Mood swings
- Sleep problems
- High blood pressure
- Eating disorders
Our unique award winning 'The Calm Choice' programme, run by two qualified physiotherapists with extensive expertise in holistic therapy, offers a combination of medically proven stress-reducing activities. The programme includes yoga, relaxation, breathing exercises, cognitive behavioural therapy and other holistic therapies. The programme consists of weekly 90 minute sessions, with no more than eight people per session to ensure maximum personal attention from our trainers.
Over the course of the four-week programme we will help you to understand the effects of stress on both your mind and body as well as finding long-term ways that you can effectively manage your own levels of stress by:
- Exploring helpful and unhelpful levels of stress
- Identifying personal stress triggers
- Learning simple relaxation techniques.
