Your consultant might recommend a colonoscopy if they want to check for problems in your colon (large bowel). During the procedure your consultant will examine the large bowel to look for changes or abnormalities such as colon polyps and bowel cancer and investigate the cause of bowel symptoms you might be experiencing.
A colonoscopy is an internal examination of your lower large intestine including your rectum and colon. It is carried out as an outpatient procedure that takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes. The colonoscopy is conducted using a flexible telescope which is inserted into the back passage so the endoscopist can check for anything which might be causing trouble. You may be offered a sedative, but will remain awake throughout.
If you require a colonoscopy our consultant doctors can offer a range of advanced treatments. We offer all-inclusive self-pay packages for patients who require a colonoscopy and who wish to pay for their own treatment (terms and conditions apply).
• Therapeutic colonoscopy (with biopsy or excision of lesion) with prices starting from £2,150
