New £20m hospital facility opens in Buckhurst Hill

Amidst the snow Holly House Hospital opened the doors of its new private healthcare facility to outpatients on Monday 21 January.

Built on the site of the former London Ambulance station at the rear of the hospital, the new facility is part of an ongoing multi-million pound redevelopment and expansion project which has doubled the size of the hospital.

The £20m purpose-built facility, in Buckhurst Hill on the borders of East London and Essex, contains outpatient services and operating theatres previously located within the original house which dates back to the nineteenth century.  The new building consists of 23 consultation and minor treatment rooms, Pharmacy, dedicated Oral Surgery Suite, and Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic, alongside the existing fully-equipped Diagnostic Centre.  Three new integrated theatres and a pathology laboratory have also been created, as well as an underground car park.

The new build provides cutting edge treatment facilities leaving the existing hospital, complete with many of the house’s original features, for inpatients to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay in surroundings not dissimilar to a five-star country house hotel.  Phase two of the redevelopment and expansion project will see additional inpatient bedrooms created within newly vacated areas of the original building, increasing the number of inpatient beds from 55 to 70.

Phil Bates, Director of Holly House Hospital, said: “This is an exciting time for private healthcare and Holly House.  Our new hospital has been designed to combine the exceptional medical care for which Holly House has been known for the last 30 years with some of the best modern healthcare facilities in the UK. We are looking forward to welcoming both our existing patients and new patients to Holly House in the near future.  The investment, our largest ever, will be a major boost to the local community as well as our own staff.”

Every effort has been made to ensure that patients will have a premium experience, with all services now located under one roof, forest views from many of the consulting rooms and waiting areas, and new concierge service.   A particular feature of the new facility is the stunning circular reception desk and contemporary colours dominating the outpatients department.

Jill Johnson, from Loughton, has been a patient at Holly House for many years and was one of the first patients through the doors.   Mrs Johnson said: “The old waiting area was really cramped and sometimes it was difficult to find a seat at busy times.  But, this is much more spacious, airy and friendly.  I love all the different colours, it’s really quirky.  I also like the circular concept of outpatients with all the rooms coming off the circle.”

The hospital continues to offer consultations, investigations and treatment in most medical specialties including orthopaedics, general surgery, women’s health, men’s health, ENT, oral surgery and ophthalmics.  Specialist services include cosmetic surgery, weight-loss surgery, fertility, private GP service and health screening.  The considerable investment into the latest technology will undoubtedly attract new consultants to the hospital and see new services being developed over the coming months.

Holly House Hospital, a member of Aspen Healthcare, welcomes both insured patients and those choosing to pay for their own treatment.  Patients are guaranteed rapid access to appointments at times convenient to them including evenings and Saturdays. Some services are also provided to patients on behalf of the NHS.
