Holly House awarded 5 stars for hospital food

Holly House Hospital has retained the top award by Epping Forest District Council in the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.  The scheme is run by local authorities in partnership with the Food Standards Agency to help consumers choose where to eat and encourage businesses to improve hygiene by providing information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, cafés, takeaways, hotels and food shops.

We cater for up to 55 inpatients as well as visitors, surgeons and staff every day and again received a five-star rating following an unannounced inspection by a Food Safety Officer from Epping Forest District Council.  The rating shows how well the business is meeting the requirements of food hygiene law across the following criteria:

  • how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities
  • how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.

Our excellent five-star rating means that patients can be confident that not only will they receive outstanding clinical care but that the hospital also practices very high standards of food safety.
