Clinical interests:

Rheumatoid Arthritis - newer treatment options such as Biologics and TNF blockade therapies and newer treatments for inflammatory arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis and Axial Spondyloarthopathy (Ankylosing Spondylitis) and newer therapies - IL-17 blockage. Osteoarthritis and new treatments - APOS therapy and visco-supplementation (Synvisc-One and Durolane). Gout that is difficult to manage. Osteoporosis assessment and management. Soft tissues rheumatism - sport and running injuries - injury after exercise or sport. Difficult fibromyalgia. Medico-legal work post RTA or accident.

Training & background:

Dr Donnelly runs an Early Inflammatory Back Pain Clinic with a colleague at Whipps Cross University Hospital to pick up and treat early Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) and the NHS Research Unit is at the forefront of phase 3 and 4 clinical trials of newer TNF drugs and Biologics in Rheumatoid and inflammatory Arthritis. He leads locally on a number of these international studies. His Early Inflammatory Back Pain Clinic was recently written up as a mode of best practice in the UK.

Dr Donnelly co-runs numerous clinical trials on the NHS into newer Biologics treatments in inflammatory arthritis. He also has an interest in newer therapies for Osteoarthritis (OA) – injections of Hyaluronic Acid products (visco- supplementation) and Apostherapy to alter knee mechanics and loading in early knee OA. He sees over 100 new patients with difficult fibromyalgia each year and has done 50 cases or more a year of medico-legal work post RTA or accident for the last 10 years.

Dr Donnelly has obtained a Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine from Bath University in August 2012.
