Mr Tim Bull
Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon
QualificationsMBBS, FRCS, FRCS(Trauma & Orthopaedic)
Mr Tim Bull is a full time spine surgeon, treating adult patients with spine conditions from neck to pelvis. He has a special interest in pain injections in the spine, minimally and less invasive spinal surgery and non-fusion technology such as disc replacement in the neck and facet replacement in the lower back. He does carry out a full spectrum of adult spinal operations, where needed, including discectomy, decompressions, fusions and cement augmentation for fractures. He has more than 20 years experience, managing spinal and sacro-iliac pain, nerve pain emanating from neck or lower back, fractures and tumours, with or without neurological deficit.
Having, also, suffered acute sciatica and having undergone spinal surgery himself, he is in a better position than most, to understand patients with severe pain, as well as their fears and worries over surgery.
Training & background:
Mr Bull graduated from Westminster Medical School, now part of Imperial College, London. He entered in to orthopaedic training as registrar on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital program, then on to the Cambridge Senior Registrar rotation. He was then awarded the prestigious BOA National Spinal fellowship at the Centre for the Study and Surgery of the Spine, Nottingham, England. This was a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal fellowship. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, with a special interest in spine surgery in 1998, at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, but soon became a full-time spine surgeon and Head of Orthopaedics, relinquishing that role in 2015. He established the spine unit, now based within the Royal Free London Hospitals, as a solo spine surgeon 20 years ago, building it up into a powerful multi-disciplinary team with 4 spine surgeons, as well as pain specialists, radiologists and physiotherapy clinical specialists. He is currently Consultant Spine Surgeon and clinical lead for spine surgery at the Royal Free London Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mr Bull has a keen interest in education and training. He trains young surgeons in spinal surgery at the Royal Free London Hospitals.
