Mr Sunil Kumar was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2000, with a special interest in all aspects of knee surgery and sports injuries.  Mr Kumar undertook his medical training at the London Hospital Medical College, gaining his MBBS in 1989.  Following full registration, he undertook his basic surgical training in the London region and obtained his Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.  He subsequently undertook his specialist orthopaedic training between 1994 and 2000 on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Training Programme, during which he was awarded the Johnson & Johnson Arthroplasty Fellowship.  This was followed by a specialist knee and sports trauma fellowship in New Zealand & Australia in 1999.

Mr Kumar took up his post as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in knee surgery at Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust in 2000 and was Clinical Director for the Musculoskeletal Service between 2010 and 2012.  He is an active Faculty Member of Knee Surgery Training Courses and is on the Trainee Appointment Committee.

For sports injuries, he has developed rapid rehabilitation programmes associated with meniscal surgery, traumatic osteochondral lesions requiring repair – cartilage transplantation, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, along with multi ligament injury stabilisation.  For the young arthritic knee, there are various arthroscopic procedures and minimally invasive unicompartmental knee replacement.  He also offers the latest in knee replacement surgery, including custom/patient specific total knee replacements.
