- Bowel cancer
- Bowel polyps
- Inflammatory disorders of the bowel including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
- Diverticular disease of the bowel
- Irritable bowel syndrome
Investigation and treatment of anorectal conditions including:
- Haemorrhoids (piles)
- Anal fissure
- Anal fistula
- Anal skin tags
- Rectal prolapse
- Pilonidal sinus
Investigation and treatment of general surgery conditions including:
- Groin pain
- Groin hernias
- Abdominal hernias of all kinds
- Removal of benign skin conditions such as cysts and lipomas

- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Laparoscopic (keyhole) abdominal and hernia surgery
Various kinds of surgery for haemorrhoids including haemorrhoidectomy, THD/HALO and banding

Training and Background
Originally from Scotland, Mr Alam qualified as a doctor from Edinburgh University in 1997, and since then he has been mainly living and working in and around London. He completed Higher Surgical Training in North East London, obtained his Masters in Surgery from University College London in 2007 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010.
Mr Alam is Clinical Lead for General Surgery and Clinical Lead for Bowel Cancer at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this, Mr Alam worked as a consultant for almost two years at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, a nationally recognised centre of excellence in colorectal surgery and medical practice in general.
