Clinical interests:
Ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, echocardiography, coronary angiography and pacemaker implantation. Management of cardiac arrhythmias including palpitations and blackouts. Special interest in complex device implanation including implantable cardioverter defibrillators and pacemakers in patients with heart failure – cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
Training and Background
Dr Roy graduated from Guys and St. Thomas’s Medical School in 1998. He was awarded an industry fellowship to study a MD in Cardiology which was completed in 2006.
He completed postgraduate training in Cardiology on the South Thames rotation and worked at various hospitals in Surrey, Sussex and London including St. Thomas’s hospital, St. George’s hospital and Eastbourne hospital. He was appointed as a consultant at Colchester University Hospital and The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in March 2011 and moved to Princess Alexandra Hospital in May 2013.
Dr Roy has a special interest in cardiac pacing and received high volume training in pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation and biventricular pacing in patients with heart failure. He was responsible for starting the first district general ICD implantation and follow up service in Essex. He is also a high volume implanter of biventricular pacemakers at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre.
Dr Roy has had over 20 research papers published in international peer reviewed journals.
