Dr Alan Watson graduated with distinction from Cambridge University and trained in centres of excellence in London, Cambridge and Nottingham before taking up his current post as Consultant Gastroenterologist with Barts Health at Whipps Cross Hospital.
Endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) forms a key aspect of Dr Watson’s practice. He has extensive experience in providing safe and thorough endoscopic examinations with minimal patient discomfort. His experience allows him to perform at an advanced level, using new techniques to treat problems with the endoscope that may previously have required an operation.
Dr Watson’s practice is based on a background of excellent scientific and clinical research. His PhD at Cancer Research UK led to publications in world-class journals such as Nature and Nature Medicine. He continues with patient-centred research as Lead Clinician for Intestinal Research and Audit at Whipps Cross Hospital.
Whilst at Cambridge, Dr Watson rowed in (and won) the Boat Race and has since raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity by rowing across the Atlantic Ocean and competing in desert ultra-marathon running. He lives in the local area and is married with two young children.
