New Stress Management Therapy at Holly House Hospital

Stress in balance allows us to react to life’s pressures, however, out of balance it is linked to a range of physical and mental health problems including chronic pain, high blood pressure, headaches, fatigue, anxiety and depression.  We are all aware that levels of stress are continually increasing in the twenty first century but the services available to effectively address and treat stress remain poorly provided hence the introduction of a new exciting Physiotherapy-led Stress Management programme at Holly House Hospital.

With a brand new Physiotherapy and Sports Unit, we are now able to offer this unique service to help people identify their stress triggers and effectively manage their own levels of stress with a combination of medically proven stress-reducing therapies.   The programme, run by two qualified physiotherapists with extensive expertise in holistic therapy, consists of four weekly 90 minute sessions and takes place in small groups of no more than eight people to ensure maximum personal attention.  Participants will learn various techniques including yoga, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, cognitive behavioural therapy and other holistic therapies.

The Stress Management Programme is just one of the new physiotherapy services introduced to coincide with the recent launch of the unit - the first completed phase of thehospital’s £20 million redevelopment and expansion project.  The new unit features six individual treatment areas as well as a dedicated gym enabling the experienced team of physiotherapists to treat people of all ages with physical problems caused by illness, injury or ageing.  The unit also provides a number of specialist services including pilates classes, acupuncture, electrotherapy, biofeedback to identify muscle imbalance in stress incontinence, and phototherapy for the treatment of dermatological skin conditions.
